In this episode I break format and take it old school style and just rambling about things that are on my mind like the
L.A Riots being almost 20 years ago, Black people hating bees, getting rid of porn, fighting wolves, saving yourself for a special someone, and a new blog started by me and
Camille called
rocketsandchicken.blogspot.com.

ReplyDeleteI think it's really only in the US that the idea of 'saving yourself' for someone special for so damn long is something that's taken seriously. I mean obviously here in Europe there are religious types who save themselves for marriage but let's face it, fundamentalist religious types rarely use human logic anyway. Prolonged virginity doesn't even make a whole lot of sense from a practical point of view, after all if you live on bread and water for years waiting for the perfect chef, when he or she finally comes along and you accept a meal from them, you don't have any way to judge if it's any good or not. You don't even know what a great cheeseburger is, never mind a gourmet meal. You've never given yourself the opportunity to figure out what you like, so if it IS a great meal, it's wasted on you.
ReplyDeleteThink of all the normal human experiences you deny yourself by waiting and waiting...all the fun surrounding everything that leads up to having sex, and even sometimes the fun of NOT having sex with someone you're flirting with, knowing that the tantalising possibility is always there. Why would you choose to not engage in that? Where's the advantage? Sex is part of what makes us complete human beings.
And I'm speaking as someone whose sexual experience is probably far less than that of most women my age, because I don't really do casual sex, it takes me a long time to like someone enough to get in the shag zone. At the end of the day, for me it's about an intimate relationship with someone I care about, but that's a lot different from creating some artificial ideal of the perfect pure sexual experience with my one true love. That Disney shit, honestly. Promise rings and abstinent Mormon vampires. Only in America.
I cracked up laughing at your comparison of porn sites. Maybe you should blog a connoiseur's guide to the different porn sites. I'm sure you'd get a lots of hits, I'll bet there's a lot of people out there frustrated by wasting precious time on sites that don't cater to their tastes.
I had a very mixed reaction to what you said about dumping some of your porn collection because of your ex-girlfriend's feelings about it. On the one hand, I think it's really cool that her feelings mattered enough for you to do that, a lot of guys just would not give a shit, even if it was something that really mattered to their girl. On the other hand, fuck being dictated to by someone else's values. If she really felt that strongly about it, she shouldn't have been dating you. I think it's horrible to expect someone to change for you. Either you accept them or you leave. Every relationshop involves compromise, I know, I think that's good, it makes us better people when the compromise is good, but guilt is never a good reason for compromise. I'm sorry your better nature was exploited.
"...if you live on bread and water for years waiting for the perfect chef, when he or she finally comes along and you accept a meal from them, you don't have any way to judge if it's any good or not." That is the best description of saving yourself I have ever heard in my life!!! You win the internets for the week!
ReplyDeleteI can understand people saving themselves for fear of diseases or something but even that gets to a point where its a bit too much paranoia. But denying yourself something that feels so good because you have this Disney version of what sex is? Hell no.
Like you said, you wont even know what is good or what isn't. What turns you on and what doesn't. There is so much more to sex than putting it in (or having it put in). Imagine not having any working knowledge of your own personal kinks and then marrying someone. That is a fucking nightmare.
Don't feel too bad for my porn collection being gone. I'm sure some perv found it in the trash and hit the jackpot. Or not. I do live in west Hollywood and a bin full of straight porn is a terrifying thing.
I win the Internets?? Yay! *sudden urge to wash hands in scalding hot water*
ReplyDeleteA bin full of straight porn would be a party for most people anywhere except where you live hahaha! Ick, though. I had an ex who used to buy SECOND HAND PORN MAGAZINES. I refused to let him touch me until he washed his hands thoroughly afterwards, which I supervised because I didn't trust the filthy bastard. He stopped when he started getting ones with the pages stuck together. All I can say is, I can't believe how tolerant I was when I was 20.
Ew!!! Who in the blue hell would buy second hand porn magazines?! I don't like the idea of "Watch what others are watching" on Pornhub. I couldn't imagine touching used spank mags.
ReplyDeleteLike I said, he was a filthy bastard. His biggest complaint about me? That I was untidy -as you know, I live surrounded by teetering piles of books, newspapers, notebooks and DVDs. However, my bathroom and kitchen were and are always completely spotless. I decided I needed out from that relationship when I saw the state of his bathroom after he got his own place.
