This Shirt Is Not The Problem

Here we go. Late last night I saw a post condemning Wal-Mart for selling a shirt that has the phrase “Training To Be Batman's Wife” on it. Don't bother trying to order it because it is sold out for being awesome. Some are saying it is sending the message that it is okay for women to be okay with living a life that leads to being the wife of Batman as if that goal is enough. You know what? It is! I know that I'm not good enough to be Batman's wife and I'm an old, straight Black dude. But DC Comics felt the need to respond to people who like being upset with the following. Read it in the voice of Droopy. Its funnier.

Our company is committed to empowering boys and girls, men and women, through our characters and stories. If this was true then the comic book industry would be far different than it is right now. Comic books get away with a lot of sexist shit and then after taking it on the chin they will throw a gay character out there, make a normally White one Black, or just straight up turn a man into a woman. I'm all about women feeling powerful (click here) but this is just misguided rage over a shirt that I want. I know that being a woman (click here) is different than it used to be as well as being a man (click here). The lines between the two are blurred until pants drop and even then it is still questionable.

Do you know how bad ass you have to be to be Batman's wife? This guy has a rogue gallery of hot and cold running vajayjay and Talia Al Ghul is the only one to get some of his Bat-seed. And she herself is one of the most dangerous characters, man or woman, that he has ever been involved with. Here is some shit folks wrote online in response to this shirt.

Better learn how to get blood stains out of his clothes, girls! You don't want your superhero husband to wear dingy, stained armor!”

God forbid you're supportive of a guy that fights crime every night while pretending to be a normal billionaire by day! And Alfred is there so all this shit they are complaining about is void.

“Your smart, intelligent teen doesn't need any of this if she's training to be Batman's wife. Why bother when she's just going to become a wife who cruises around Gotham City in the Batmobile all day watching the Dark Knight save the day. Let's hope that she at least gets to wear a cool cape and give birth to cute bat babies.”

They must not know what happened to Batman's son. These comments say more about the writer than DC or Wal-Mart. Is that how you view women? What is with this assumption that if you are married to Batman that your day will consist of nothing but taking care of him? Has Batman ever even known a woman that wasn't tough as fuck? Take a look,not even at the women that Batman has been romantically involved with, but just hung around and partnered with. Bat Woman. Batgirl. Wonder Woman. The Huntress. Catwoman. Are these considered weak women? If I had a daughter I'd buy her this shirt in a second. Training to be Batman's wife is something we all should be doing.
