Kids These Days 20

SH sent me this story earlier today and I sighed so loudly that I'm sure it sounded like Bigfoot was climaxing. A mother up in Canada named Anne Belanger was upset that her son, Miles, with spinal muscular dystrophy was seated away from the rest of his class when they took their second grade photo.

His mother is quoted as saying "Look at the angle that he was in. He wants to be part of the gang so much." Now, this is something that cant be helped. He's in a wheelchair. Not a normal ass one where folks can breakdance in if they are inclined to do so. But one of those giant motorized ones that crush feet.

In the picture you can see that that's as close as he is getting without blocking the other children. His father went on to whine "It makes me feel even worse that he's so happy in the picture. He's still so naive to how other people can treat him."

Okay. Where do I begin? Your kid isn't like the other kids. Lots of kids aren't. Yours is just in a more obvious way. He'll never be "a part of the gang." Some kids aren't because they are too fat, tall, or dress badly. That's how shit goes sometimes. You get dealt a shitty hand and try to make the best of it. What doesn't help is having two goofy ass parents that think that he is being left out because he isn't seated on the bench. Oh, by the way, they ended up taking another picture with the kid on the bench and I fucking guarantee you that it looks as awkward as you can imagine!

As for him "being naive to how other people treat him", its called being a kid. As a kid you are told that a fat man comes down your chimney and brings gifts, a giant rabbit lays chocolate eggs, and a magical fairy gives you cash for your shitty teeth. Childhood is all about being naive! Its also about having parents that sometimes cant handle being a parent. Do they think that life is gonna be easier for this kid? Let him smile in the photo! I wonder if he tried to figure out why he was being taken out of his chair and put on the bench after taking one picture already. Fuck these parents. This kid looks happy and fine in this picture.
