There is this story that I was made
aware of because of the hashtag #RIPAmy. A 16 year old student from
Delaware named Amy Inita Joyner-Francis died after being jumped in a
school bathroom yesterday morning at Howard High University. It is
being reported by media that her friends say that people stood around
watching as she was attacked and recorded it on their phones instead
of helping her. The ridiculousness of that statement is something
I'll get around to discussing in a little bit.
Wilmington mayor Denis
Williams said at a press conference “I'm so upset that the young
lady lost her life today. Things like this shouldn't happen. My heart
bleeds for the family, the kids that go to this school,
administrators and our city.” Amy was pronounced dead on the way to
the hospital.
Police have begun interviewing students
and possible suspects. One witness said “She was fighting a girl,
and then that's when all these other girls started banking her, like
jumping her, and she hit her head on the sink.” It is also said
that a full time police officer is stationed at this school. So far
this story is surprising to many because it consisted of nothing but
girls, no one stepped in to help, and a police officer was on
location when this murder took place.
But as someone that has watched
hundreds of hours of videos of people having their asses kicked,
almost half of the time in school, none of this story surprised me.
There are plenty of videos of girls beating the hell out of each
other. This particular fight was allegedly over a boy. Now, I am sure
someone is saying that she should've/could've walked away. Not
always. Sometimes there is no walking away from a fight, especially
if there are multiple people coming at you. As for those saying that
someone should have helped her, as Earth Wind & Fire once said
“That's the way of the world.”
You can no longer say “These kids
today...” because they learned all of their behaviors from adults.
Eventually footage of this girl being beaten to death will show up
online because one of the students that filmed it, and I assure you
its ten at the least, will be compelled to post it because that is
what people, not just kids, do these days.
There is another story of
a 15 year old pregnant girl in Tennessee that gets her ass kicked on
the regular at school and that footage is online. People have to be
the first one to post what they have recorded to get more views,
thumbs up, and likes. I just checked and screen shots have already
appeared which is pretty much her last moments on Earth. Having her hair pulled as she is being attacked in school.
One of the girls involved in the attack
wrote on Instagram seeming to confess if this is real. I was going to
attempt to type what she said but my spell check started smoking.
Reading the reactions on Twitter gives you a good idea of how
misplaced anger can be. Folks, mostly young girls, are upset that she
was killed over a boy as if there is some other reason that would
make more sense. If she had not died this video would already be on
World Star Hip Hop or trending like when that other girl Sharkeisha
girl attacked another girl over a boy.
I assure you that this will not stop.
This is not even close to the end of kids fighting and killing each
other over dumb shit. Instead people will be looking to record and
witness the next shitty thing that humans can do to each other. Oh,
and I have to point out that if Amy looked like Sharkeisha that the
comments online would be very different.
