What People Care About This Week: Bill Cosby Rape Allegations

You ever have one of those situations in life or a series of events that happened that you had hoped was gone and no one would bring up again? I'm sure Bill Cosby does. For the past few weeks his history of rape allegations has been front and center in his life and while it was known by the public for quite some time it didn't come to the forefront again until a stand up routine by comedian Hannibal Buress where he made this statement.

“And it's even worse because Bill Cosby has the fucking smuggest old black man public persona that I hate. Pull your pants up, black people. I was on TV in the '80s. I can talk down to you because I had a successful sitcom. Yeah, but you raped women, Bill Cosby. So, brings you down a couple notches. I don't curse on stage. Well, yeah, you're a rapist, so, I'll take you sayin' lots of motherfuckers on Bill Cosby: Himself if you weren't a rapist. I want to just at least make it weird for you to watch Cosby Show reruns. I've done this bit on stage, and people don't believe. People think I'm making it up. That shit is upsetting. If you didn't know about it, trust me. You leave here and Google ‘Bill Cosby rape.' It's not funny. That shit has more results than Hannibal Buress.”

Since then it has resulted in shows canceling interviews with Cosby, more allegations or various forms of sexual misconduct, the cancellation of an upcoming Netflix series, and interviews that are uncomfortable for everyone except the interviewer because this stuff gets views and attention. I think the interviews bother me because it is the perfect example of the “gotcha media” that Sarah Palin's crazy ass used to complain about.

This is a guy that has been working on television for 50 years. That means that there are people that have grown up and even died with a certain image of what they thought Cosby was. To some he was a guy on a spy show, a cartoon, a comedian, a father, and solved mysteries. He also asked people to make a meme of him and that shit backfired like a car from the 1920's.

But still...so many rape allegations.

For the first time ever I decided to check out just how many there have been. If you told me to guess I'd say three. I remember one from a long while back and heard rumbles of maybe two more that disappeared. I was not prepared for this level of anarchy. I tried to keep this in chronological order.

A lawyer from California named Tamara Lucier Green said that Cosby drugged and raped her in 1969. Cosby said it didn't happen and he didn't even know her.

Shawn Upshaw who was Cosby's lover during the early 1970's (Cosby has been married to Camille since the mid-60's) got $100,000 to not reveal that he had a child with her though he says the kid wasn't his. When the child, Autumn Jackson, was 22 years old she tried to extort $40 million from Cosby. She was given 26 months in jail instead.

A journalist named Joan Tarshis recently claimed that Cosby raped her in 1969 when she was 19 years old.

Beth Ferrier said that in 1984 Cosby drugged her coffee and after feeling dizzy she passed out and woke up later with her clothes half off.

Janice Dickinson recently came out and said that Cosby gave her glass of wine and a pill then raped her in 1982. This is the only accusation where people are like “I don't believe you more than I do.” Why? Because its Janice fucking Dickinson, that's why.

Barbara Bowman, one of the first women to ever come forward, is once again in the spotlight after Buress' stand up routine. She says she was drugged, sexually assaulted, and raped by Cosby from 1985-1987 starting when she was 17 years old.

In early 2000 Lachele Covington said in a police report days after it happened that Cosby groped her in his apartment.

In early 2004 Andrea Constand accused Cosby of drugging and touching her. It was tossed out due to “insufficient credible and admissible evidence.” After she filed a civil claim against him and thirteen other women came forward Cosby threw some money at her and settled out of court.

November 20th, 2014 (that is today) a woman named Carla Ferrigno (the wife of The Incredible Hulk) has accused Cosby of raping her.

Now, lets just say that Cosby is innocent as far as we can prove. Pretend that these women are doing this just to get money from him. He does have a net worth of $400 million. Even then it gets shaky because it is not as if every woman that accused him got a buy out. The allegations go on for decades at a time. Its not like he spent the 60's and 70's raping women then called it quits. He's 77 years old and has been accused of this since he was in his 30's.

That is a long time to be accused of one particular crime and not have it be true. Katt Williams, another comedian, once said “If a muthafucka call you a crackhead for 20 years, bitch you are smoking crack! Whitney (Houston) done smoked her kneecaps off, and we still talking about 'Uh-uh!'” Of course a lot of people don't want the accusations to be true. He was Heathcliff Huxtable! No way would the man that created Fat Albert be a rapist!

Not just a rapist. Someone who drugs and rapes women and pays some of them off to keep quiet about it. Sadly, it may be true. For a while I thought he was just an angry old man that wanted Black people to get their shit together. Then I saw a show of his last year that made me laugh and thought he still had it. Now he's just a creepy old man that fucked with a lot of women and got away with it because he is rich and famous.
